MEAT PROCESSING PLANT

CASE STUDY

PROJECT: ANZCO Eltham
LOCATION: Eltham, Taranaki

ANZCO Eltham is a prominent meat processing plant and one of the largest employers in the Taranaki region. Faced with the challenge of slippery concrete in their outward goods area, they sought to find a solution that would enhance safety of their machinery and forklift operations, without compromising the sterile environment.

Understanding the need to eliminate dust and fumes, Presco Environmental was entrusted with the task of resurfacing the concrete. We chose to use an electric concrete scabbler equipped with a dust extraction system. This ensured that the resurfacing work was carried out efficiently while maintaining the high hygiene standards required by a meat processing facility.

Strategically dividing the project into three zones to work around ANZCO’s shift schedules and minimise disruption, our team completed the resurfacing of 1000sqm of concrete over approximately four days. The rough finish provided by the concrete scabbler significantly reduced slip hazards, enhancing the safety of the outwards goods area.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

PROJECT: Whanganui Wastewater Treatment Plant
LOCATION: Whanganui

Presco Environmental was tasked with the comprehensive cleaning and maintenance of the aerator tank at the Whanganui Wastewater Treatment Plant. Our primary objective was to ensure a safe environment for servicing the aerator pipes located at the bottom of the tank.

We initiated the project by collaborating closely with the client to define a clear scope of work. This involved coordinating various subcontractors, as well as arranging pump hire services. A robust permitting system was established to manage the work site, prioritising health and safety protocols.

Over the course of three days, we deployed pumps to drain the tank, laying the groundwork for subsequent operations. Upon completion of the scaffolding setup, our technicians removed sections of the roof to facilitate entry.

The BA-trained team executed a thorough cleaning process within the tank. Following the cleaning phase, we conducted a comprehensive inspection and advised there were concerns around the condition of the tank’s internals, which necessitated remedial action.

Upon completion of the cleaning and inspection, the tank lid was reinstalled and scaffolding was removed, returning the site to normal operations.

MANUFACTURING FACILITY

PROJECT: DFE Pharma
LOCATION: Kapuni, Taranaki

Since 2008 Presco Environmental has been entrusted with the critical task of carrying out 6 monthly, building and roof cleans, as well as insect spraying at DFE Pharma. DFE Pharma are a pharmaceutical lactose manufacturing facility and with the sensitive nature of the product being manufactured, they require the highest cleaning standards to maintain product quality.

The facility presents unique challenges due to its extensive scale and surroundings. The building is nearly entirely surrounded by grass, making the cleaning process complex due to the uneven ground surface and requires specialised equipment operated by a skilled team. The facility is also situated next to an important local river, imposing strict environmental policies. We implemented rigorous measures to control our cleaning chemicals and prevent any debris from entering the river through the storm water system.

In addition to the environmental challenges, the site includes a high voltage compound that requires specialised cleaning procedures to maintain optimal functionality and safety. Our team of skilled technicians are trained to handle the complex infrastructure, ensuring thorough and efficient cleaning processes while maintaining compliance with the strict cleaning standards.

Through our tailored approach, skilled team and strict adherence to environmental policies, we have successfully met the unique challenges of the site, maintained a long-lasting relationship with the client and ensured the continued cleanliness, safety and compliance of the facility.
